God Fiend. (E. Bartolacci)

I won't be a cage your pathetic artist. She wore her leather well. But she don't hide it anyway. I got nineteen sores that don't heal and don't rest. Come on, Daddy love. I won't be a cage your pathetic artist.

Green Light Bulb. (DJ Shinaver)

Took your purchase unnoticed. Want my feelings back. Your merchandise burnt out. Question supply and demand. Always searching for reason. So you feel in control. But what you are selling, has already been sold. Take it. Away. From me. Why don't you... LEAVE.

Letter to Mr. Seven, from DJ Shinaver while on Motorist tour. 6.95

June 27. 95. I drove the van over to Lansing to pick up Erik and Jim. It took them awhile before they were ready to leave. We had to go downtown so Erik could paid for another ticket down at the court/federal building or something. I was still pissed off that Sarah Coppock did not even find any time to visit before I left, and Jim and Erik both knew I was not very happy about them leaving me at the show in Portland. So, with all that shit done and in the past, we started our way out of Lansing. We did not even make it to the highway. First, we stopped at Midas to look at the van because we had good reason to believe that we were losing the steering. We learned that it was nothing that serious. Returning back to Saginaw we came up next to my father. He told us to stop off at Mc Donald's. He paid for all our food. Brandy was working there- and told me "good luck- be careful." For some reason, I know she likes me. I don't know about sexually or any crap like that, but I know she likes me as a person. For the rest of the day I thought about two things: 1. Who/What would I be if I did not play an instrument? How would people see me if I was not a musician? Just a person...? And 2. And I thought how my life would be if I had normal parents??? We drove thru Illinois all day and all night. Then we were stopped by the law. Our tail-light stopped working- just we blew a fuse. Ate at Subway. Fell into a couple of rainstorms. Traveled more and fell asleep at a Shell station.

June 28. 95. Jim took off driving before I got out of my sleeping bag. When I finally peeked my head out to the sunlight, I awoke to the Mississippi River. It was awesome. After at least 6-7 hours of straight driving we enter Fayetville, Arkansas, at this skate park. It was a very good show. Afterwards, I saw a spider about 4.5 inches long. We stayed at some girl's house. I slept on the floor.

June 29. 95. I woke up to this very beautiful girl opening the windows. I drove all fucking day long. We traveled thru the mall. A girl who worked at 'Tacos N' Chips' came up to me (I was almost fell asleep)- Erik hit me, waking me- saying "Dave she's talking to you!" I looked up and saw this cute blond-headed girl saying "I am just over there loving you..." With a complete blank thoughts, I say out loud: "WHAT??!" We leave. I feel stupid and bad for responsing to her like that. I saw like 15 old black people sitting on porches in front of their little houses on the way to Hot Springs. We traveled and found where we are going to play tomorrow- found a place to stay for the night and found a girl, who took us to a Waffle House. The girl's name is Pam. She has blond hair and she is very cute. Very, very cute... I was very interested until she told us she was 13 years old. (but her figure was more like 18). I watched Star Wars and Breakfast Club and fell asleep.

June 30. 95. I watched movies all day long with the guy who lived at the Youth Hall- his name is Stan. I saw the Breakfast Club again. It rained for like ten minutes super-super hard and then stopped and instant sunshine. Weird. Some weird fucking hippy bike-man came out of that storm- he traveled to Canada- with a fucking bike! What a dumbass. Later that night- he tried to sale necklaces and hair ties while the punk bands played. The first band sucked. So did the second- but Pam sang that band and joined the band like five minutes before they started playing- it was cool. Pam, her sister Jill, and their friend Erin took me and only me out to a Chinese dinner just before we played. That night sucked ass for us... On the first note I blew out one of my speakers, Erik broke 3 strings on his guitar and 4 strings on someone elses guitar and finally Jim broke his snare drum head. IT WAS AWFUL!!! After all that- I sat there just outside the club and then Pam took me by the hand and we took off for a long walk. His homeless guy took a shit in middle of the sidewalk down from the Youth Hall- some punker stepped right into it- what a hard reality to the shit of soceity! She showed me some real Hot Springs and we sat at this park bench, talking, and holding on to each other for about an hour. For some reason she thought I was good looking and came right out and told me she wanted to kiss me. Some punk rocker named Matt stopped by. We talked and Pam and I left to go back to the Youth Hall. We did not make it instead we sat half a block away from there about six feet from the Motorist Van. She tried to kiss me but I didn't kiss back. She was upset. So we sat in silence for about ten minutes, and then I took her hand- thought to myself- 'What the fuck, this is a beautiful girl' and took her back to the van... Yes, I made out with a 13 year old and it was fucking good! And for some reason I miss her right now. I fell asleep thinking about Pam, and all that happened.

July 1. 95. Did nothing but drive all fucking day. We landed at Lake Charles, Louisiana. We set up and played first. It was a clean bathroom for a punk-rock club. I made friends with this guy named Steve- Motorist spent the night at his house.

July 2. 95. Steve's little dog licked my face- getting me up- at first I thought it was a rat, but his dog was smaller than a rat! We all took a bike ride around his neighborhood. And left for New Orleans... I drove some, Erik and I listened to Contrete Blonde, it was fucking cool. The coolest about New Orleans is the giant graveyard. Almost every tomb is this graveyard has a large stone building with it and awesome sculptures of angels, demons, etc. on top of them. The rest of New Orleans sucks- very cheap housing, a very scary place to be day or night. On leaving the city of New Orleans, Jim saw (and I got a glance) of a real dead human body, just outside of the ghetto- some black guy, face down, off the bank of a river. NO FUCKING LIE!!! We almost decided to go back to take pictures. Most all of Louisiana driving is on bridge- so many swamps, a dead body- fucking insane!

July 3. 95. We drove some more into the great state of Texas. Tlyer, Texas. We traveled to the zoo and ate at the hospital. Motorist gets into our first real arugment. We stayed at Darin's house.

July 4. 95. Motorist plays and kicks ass. I broke an 'A' string in the middle of the set. Jim and I are still looking for rattlesnakes.

July 5. 95. I am still at Darin's house and will stay another night. Today we looked around for a new speaker, tomorrow we'll pick it up- $80 dollars lost to a speaker. Today I am writing to you, tomorrow it will be mailed. I have got lots of more stories to tell but did not have the energy to write. Remind to tell you about the sheiff in Arkansas who will pull you over then butt-fuck you and the judge with a hook instead of a hand. The drag-queen. If you could do me a favor Dave, that is let everyone read this back home (Jasmin, Dawn, Dave F., Tony, Jason, Sarah C) If it possible don't go out of your way, you know. If you see one of my parentals tell them you know I am alive. Hope your band is doing well. I feel pretty lost, that stranger feeling. Here are some more fliers, my journal, my life. Well- keep this, you and I may make a book- I have an address to a girl that will copyright and publish all this. So whatever. Kiss Craig for me. Love David.
